Rosella “Red Rose” “Micgabaa-hishi” Hall Little Soldier, 103, beloved Mother and Grandmother, a member of the Low Cap Clan, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Surrounded by loving family here on earth, she was surely welcomed with shouts of joy in Heaven.
A celebration of Rosella’s life is scheduled to be held at the Twin Buttes Wellness Center, Twin Buttes, ND on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 10:00 AM CST with Waylon American Horse officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Twin Buttes, ND.
A wake service will begin at 5:00 PM CST on Wednesday, February 2 at the Twin Buttes Wellness Center.
Rosella was born on August 4, 1918, in Elbowoods, ND, to James Hall Sr. and Sarah Fredericks. She was one of 11 children, and at the time of her passing was the oldest living member of the Three Affiliated Tribes.
Rosella married her sweetheart, Nathan Little Soldier, on October 16, 1938. To this union were born five sons, two of whom died in infancy. Their son, Shotae, died in 1996. Surviving children are Dale (Suzie) of Mandan, ND, and Arby (Patricia) of Albuquerque, NM. Nathan died in August of 1980.
Rosella served others in many capacities throughout her long life and was lovingly called Mother or Grandmother or Auntie by many who were not her own. She worked for North Dakota State Extension Service for 20 years. She was a member of the Twin Buttes School Board as well as the Twin Buttes Congregational Church Council. The roll she enjoyed the most was being the caretaker for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rosella is survived by sons Dale and Arby, seven grandchildren, Coby Little Soldier, Mandy Grossman, Nathan Little Soldier, Tyler Little Soldier, Karsen Little Soldier, Skye Little Soldier and Jessica Arkeketa; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor Eder, JD Little Soldier, Shotaya Plenty Hoops, Kaylie Little Soldier, Skylar Little Soldier, Adrianna Little Soldier, Taylon Little Soldier, Kateri Grossman, Jax Little Soldier and Lola Little Soldier; and two great great grandchildren, Grayson Plenty Hoops and Taylen Plenty Hoops.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters Billy, Bud, Merval, Lee, Edwin, Audrey, Evelyn, Flora, Jake, and Dena; husband, Nathan; son, Shotae; and grandson, Beau Little Soldier.
Serving as senior pallbearer will be Phyllis Lincoln-Steen. Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Little Soldier, Tyler Little Soldier, Coby Little Soldier, Skye Little Soldier, Todd Hall, JD Little Soldier, Speedy Bruce and Kevin Beauchamp.
Rosella’s family would like to thank Knife River Care Center for their generous care and hospitality toward Rosella.
We are saddened at her passing but are sure she was welcomed with open arms and a choir of angels. Until we meet again . . . we love you, Mother.
