Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Stanley was born to Ella and Fred Miller on November 18, 1936, in Hazen, ND. Stanley was one of eleven children (8 boys, 3 girls). Stanley started his education in a one room schoolhouse. He finished high school in Hazen. After high school he attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and received his diploma in Radio and TV, followed by an associate degree from the University of Maryland.
After college came the year 1961, which included two life-changing events for Stanley. The first of these was marrying his magnificent wife Kay on May 22, whom he would go on to share over 50 years of life with before her passing in 2015. The second was volunteering to enlist in the U.S. Army where he proudly served our country with an E-4 rank and was active duty for 2 years, followed by 4 years in the reserves.
Two years after Stanley’s marriage came the birth of his first-born son Jeffrey in San Jose, California. The next year brought Stanley his first-born daughter Sherri, and in 1966 the family was completed with twins Melissa and Stephen. Stanley supported his family through the years with jobs at Philco Ford in Palo Alto, California, Ford Aerospace in Colorado Springs, CO, and finally Lorell in California before retiring and moving back to North Dakota.
Throughout his many joyous years, Stanley loved to travel. He flew with his wife Kay to Norway, Sweden, Spain, St. Thomas, Hawaii, and took an Alaskan cruise. Stanley also travelled extensively throughout Europe with Kay and his children when Ford transferred and assigned him to projects based in Bude and Ripon, England.
Stanley also kept himself busy with numerous hobbies that included horseshoes, work softball teams, bowling leagues with Kay, building electronics with his young children, hunting pheasant, duck, deer, elk, involvement with the Beulah Historical Society, singing in the German choir at retirement homes, and trap shooting at the Zap Sportsman’s Club. He belonged to the Prairie Rose Car Club and enjoyed showing off a 1973 Roadrunner (that he restored) in multiple car shows and parades. Stanley also contributed to the very first satellite launched by Philco Ford in the 60’s.
The most important thing to Stanley was his relationship with Jesus. He lived his Christianity in his words and actions every day and was thrilled to pass that love and knowledge along to his children. He was very active in his churches and volunteered wherever he was needed, including being an usher and money counter. In 2017 Stanley married Jeannette Mattern. They were married until her passing in June of this year.
Anyone that knew Stanley was pleasantly aware of his sense of humor, his faith, and his kindness. He will be missed greatly and is survived by his four children Jeffrey, Sherri, Melissa, and Stephen, his sister June, and his brother Arlo. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
