Susan Engel

Susan Michelle Engel, 64, of Beulah, ND passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022. Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 15th 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church inBeulah, ND with Pastor Kathleen Dettmann officiating. Burial will follow at Garrison City Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 14th at Barbot Funeral Home in Beulah. 

Susan was born on October 9, 1957 in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Douglas, ND. She attended Country school until 3rd grade, then continued her education in Garrison where she graduated in 1975. Susan married the love of her life, Tim, on September 17th, 1977 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison, ND. The couple lived in Garrison where their 3 beautiful children were born:Chad, Amy, and Desirae. Shortly after Desirae was born the family moved to Golden Valley, ND. In 1989 they made their way to Beulah, where they reside today.

Susan had many different jobs throughout her life. There was one main theme to all of them - serving and helping others. She worked as a CNA at Garrison Memorial Hospital, a home health aide for Custer Health in Mercer County, and at the Beulah High School where her “kids” adopted her as Grandma Sue. She put countless hours into volunteering with her church where she taught Sunday school and even put some time in on the church council. She devoted many hours to the PTO while her children were in elementary school. Above all else she always put her position as wife, mom and grandma first. She loved being a grandma, nothing else mattered when her grandkids were around. 

Susan had many hobbies. Most of these hobbies included some sort of needle and thread or yarn. She was an avid seamstressand could sew anything anyone could dream up. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cross stich. She always had 20-30 projects going at any one time. She loved to go camping and spend time outside. If she was at home you could find her outside tending to her flowers, she was always on the move.

Susan is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tim; her children, Chad (Andrea) Engel, Amy (David) Cline, and Desirae (Michael) Mohl; her grandchildren Kyran, Kayven, Tyler and Lauren; brother Stuart Ostby, sister Sharon Mahoney; brother in-law Rodney (Liz) Engel; nieces Sarah Miles, Erin Ostby and Dominique Stoney.

She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Celesta Ostby; her brother Steve Ostby and her father and mother in-law Arthur and Esther Engel. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SakakaweaMedical Center Hospice or Beulah Quarterback Club.
