Sylvia Lorenzano, 81, of Hazen, ND, passed away peacefully in Mandan, ND, on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Hazen with Father Grafsgaard officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah. Sylvia will be later laid to rest with her husband, Louis at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.
Sylvia was born to Sotero and Maria in 1943. The family would take residence in Paterson, NJ, where she graduated from Eastside High School. It was there she met Louis Lorenzano, and they were married on January 4th, 1964 raising two sons. Sylvia was very involved at St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Michael's School in Paterson, serving on the PTA, Cub Scout den mother and as a church volunteer.
She and Louis moved to West Fargo, ND in 1974, later residing in Steele, ND where they opened Louie's Place, an Italian restaurant. In 1979, they settled in Rugby, ND and opened Louie's Cafe. Sylvia worked at Good Samaritan Hospital (now Heart of America Medical Center) as a nurse's aide in long-term care.
The family moved back to New Jersey in 1984 where Sylvia continue her career in healthcare working as an office manager for several providers. Sylvia lost her husband suddenly in June of 1991 and would never remarry. Following her mother's death in 2006, Sylvia moved to Hazen to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She became an active member of St. Martin's Church, serving as a CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered with hospice in the Hazen/Beulah area.
Sylvia was a lover of music, food, wine, the Yankees and a devoted Catholic and prayer warrior. She enjoyed travel, especially a memorable trip to Rome and the Vatican to celebrate her 80th birthday.
Sylvia is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Lou and Lori Lorenzano of Phoenix, AZ, and Paulie Lorenzano of Bismarck, ND; her brother, Lou Vazquez of Bismarck, ND; her grandchildren, Michael, Andrea, Kyle, Alex, Maria, Kaitlynn, Devon, and Karly; and her great-grandchildren, Eva, Aaliyah, Amari, and Wesley. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Louis.
