Thomas "Tom" A Schiermeister

THOMAS ALLEN SCHIERMEISTER, 65, of Hazen, passed away suddenly on November 5, 2020, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at a later date at the Hazelton Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Tom was born on September 27, 1955, to Leroy and Esther (Doolittle) Schiermeister.  He was raised and educated in Hazelton, ND, graduating from Hazelton High School in 1974. He worked at the Standard gas station in Hazelton all through high school.  Tom also did some custom combining at the age of 15.   He worked for the railroad for a time before going to power plant school.  Upon receiving his power plant degree, Tom worked at Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah for 30 years as a control room operator.

Tom married Sandi Gappert on July 19, 2002 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen and together they lived in Hazen. He retired in 2013 and continued to live in Hazen.

Tom enjoyed the lake, boating and camping.  He was an avid “Chiefs” fan and also loved to watch NASCAR.  He liked yard work and was known for helping others with numerous projects.  Tom was part of a local pool league for many years.  To Aubree and many of her friends, Tom was known as “Papa T”.

Tom was survived by his wife Sandi of Hazen; two daughters, Aubree of Hazen and LeAnn of Mandan; one step-son, Cody Borner of Stanton; one sister, DeAnn (Tim) Cunningham of Cary NC; one brother, Calvin (Nancy) of Menoken, ND;  his mother-in-law, Eleanore Gappert of Stanton, ND; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ione Human; his father-in-law, Arden Gappert.
