Vernette "Boe" Wolf Obituary

Vernette Lynn (Holen) Wolf “Boe”, 49 of Twin Buttes, ND passed peacefully August 5, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center. Services will be held at 9:00 AM CDT, Wednesday, August 11, 2021, and a wake service will begin at 5:00 PM CDT, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, both at the Twin Buttes Wellness Center.

Boe was born October 27, 1971 in Dickinson, ND to the late Ellen Cleo Holen and Kelly Spotted Bear.

Boe was raised in Twin Buttes her whole life. She attended Head Start and elementary school at Twin Buttes. During her elementary school days, Boe was active in basketball, cheerleading and student council. Boe attended Halliday High School, Halliday, ND and Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD. Later she attended Anaconda Job Corp, Anaconda, Montana where she received her GED.

After job corp, Boe moved to Salt Lake City where on May 12, 1992, she gave birth to her one true love, Michael Garrett. Missing home, Boe moved back to Twin Buttes with her son.  Boe worked for Dream Catcher’s Day Care, Twin Buttes. She also worked for the Twin Buttes School as a cook. Until her illness, she was employed as the head cook in Twin Buttes for Aging Services.

Boe would take pleasure playing cards, dominos, and dice (making and changing the rules to benefit her). This “talent” was picked up by her nieces, Hannah and Chloe. Boe loved to have domino tournaments for her birthdays. She loved playing darts with Bev, Darcy, and Stubby. She also enjoyed a good game of pool. Boe was also a damn good softball pitcher. She would play as long as she got the “courtesy runner”.

As our brother Hank said it best, you’ll never find a person with a bigger heart. She took care of and helped anybody in need even if she didn’t have the means, but she always found a way. Boe had a very special place in her heart for all the babies and little ones. She would hug, kiss, and squeeze them up. She was always auntie and grandma, relative or not.  Boe held a special bond with her niece Lexi whom lived with Boe and Shannon on and off for many years. Of all her grands, we all knew Granma’s boy, Orlando was her fav.

Although Boe loved all the little ones, she probably LOVED her pets more. She would often take her English Bulldog, Vern, to DQ to get him his cheeseburger and ice cream cone. After Vern passed Boe was so sad (she even got him cremated), along came Vinney Dean. She SPOILED this dog so terribly that he would actually cry for her when she left him in the car. Then there is Harrison the German Shepard, Lilly the Rat Terrier and her cats, Sammy and Socks.

At the time of her passing Boe was a member of the Twin Buttes School Board and the Twin Buttes Community Association. When she was running for community board, nobody knew who Vernette was until they put “Boe” beside her name. Then she beat her sister, Vanessa by one vote. Those of us who knew Boe well knew she always was a big ass baby deep down but her shell was tough as nails. Our hearts our so very broken, however her heart is full again.  Boe had huge heart, an awesome sense of humor with a great smile that will be missed along with her frybread making skills.

Boe is survived by her dad, Kelly (DeeDee) Spotted Bear, sisters Vanessa Holen (Trace), Lisa Furr, Melissa “Stubby” Starr, Karissa Diaz-Corrral (Juan), Garnette Howard, Olivia and Wind Spirit Spotted Bear; brothers, Hank (Geneva) Starr, Eric (Windy) Howard, Cory (Sierra) Spotted Bear, Denver (Jade) Spotted Bear, Justin(Cody) Spotted Bear, Clay Spotted Bear and Hjalmer Spotted Bear; God children, Devon Starr, Lexi Starr, Ayanna Gwin, Joey Appel, Manyiah Walker and Harmony Little; step-son, Seth (Morning Star) Wolf, and her many, many nieces, nephews and grandbabies.
