Vernon Peplow Obituary

Vernon Peplow, 77, of Hazen, passed away on Friday May 3, 2019 at Knife River Care Center in Beulah after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The family will be hosting a memorial open house from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Hazen City Hall.

Vernon Richard Peplow was born in Cavalier, ND on June 25, 1941 to Elmer and Elsie Peplow. He lived, went to school, and grew up there.  When he was 17 he dropped out of high school and joined the National Guard.  He served for four years in the Float Bridge Company.  In January of 1963 he married Annetta Radomski.  During the early years of their marriage he worked for Mayo Construction. They lived in multiple cities in the upper mid-west during the summer and would spend their winters back in Velva.

Vern, Annetta and their two children, (Robyn and Rick) settled in Velva permanently in 1969 when he accepted employment at the William J Neal Power Plant.  In 1985 he transferred to the Antelope Valley Station in Beulah and for a short time he worked there and came back to Velva on his days off.  After Rick graduated from high school Vern and Annetta moved to Hazen where he resided until his death.  Vern retired from AVS in 2003.

While in Velva, Vern served on the Park Board and was also the Police Commission for some time. He enjoyed gardening and camping/fishing with his family and friends. Vern was always busy helping others, including building garages, pouring cement, removing snow, cutting down trees, etc. He also had the “gift of gab” and had an endless supply of jokes to tell anyone that would listen.

He is survived by his daughter, Robyn Thorp (Jay) Blaine, MN; his son Rick, Hazen; two grandchildren, Jordan Muhs (Thorp) Sioux Falls, Chad Thorp, Mandan; one sister, Beth Ishler, Missoula, MT;  two brothers, Dennis Peplow (Janice) Sydney, MT and Randy Peplow (Patti) Missoula; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Peplow (Radomski); an infant son, Richard Peplow; his parents, Elmer Peplow and Elsie Peplow (Snell); his mother-in-law, Frieda Sandberg (Wojahn-Radomski); his step father-in-law, Warren Sandberg; four brothers, Murry Peplow, Larry Peplow, Perry Peplow , Duane Peplow; one sister, Cathy Stillwell; two infant brothers, Randal and Arthur; and one brother-in-law, Allan Radomski.
