Veronica (Weiand) Heier

Veronica Heier, 98, of Glen Ullin, ND passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Marion Manor, Glen Ullin. Private family services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Jeff Zwack officiating. Burial will be held at North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Veronica was born on September 21, 1922 to Peter and Bridget (Skalsky) Weiand south of Beulah. She was raised and educated south of Beulah and attended country school. Veronica married Adam Heier on May 11, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Adam was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII, leaving Veronica with two small children in Glen Ullin. When Adam returned, the family moved to a farm 15 miles south of Beulah where they added four more children to their family. The couple farmed together the rest of their married life before Adam passed away in 1998. Veronica moved into Beulah and lived at the School House Apartments for 10 years. In 2008, she moved into Marion Manor, where she resided until her passing.

Veronica greatly enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, embroidering and quilting. She also like to play cards and spend time with family and friends. Veronica also enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens Center in Stanton with Adam. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Veronica is survived by her children, Phyllis (Walter) Morman of Glen Ullin, Lester Heier of Hazen, Catherine Schafer of Bismarck, Patty (Kevin) Krank of Idaho Falls, ID and Pamela (Doug) Martin of Dawson, NE; one son-in-law, Eddy Schwab; 26 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adam; her daughter, Caroline; one son-in-law, Richard; one daughter-in-law, Maxine; one grandson, Chad; four sisters, Eva, Katie, Frances and Josephine; and seven brothers, Peter, Nick, Joe, Frank, Lucus, John and Tom.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
