Violet Ost Obituary

Violet Viola Ost, 92, of Beulah, died peacefully in her favorite chair after reading the newspaper, on May 23, 2024.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT Friday, May 31, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 400 Sunny Drive, Beulah, with Pastor Jeremy Nelson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Immanuel Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Violet Lorenz was born in Watauga, SD, on February 1st, 1932, to John and Margaret (Bitterman) Lorenz. She was the 18th of 19 children. Vi was later raised in the Zap area where she met the love of her life, Gilbert Ost. They were married on June 9, 1949, and farmed north of Beulah on the family farm until 1978 when they moved into their current home in Beulah. On November 5, 1954, they knelt side-by-side at a revival in the old Immanuel Baptist Church, and together accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed from that day on, to living for the Lord.

To this union were born four children, Vicky, Cary, Joette and Linda, who all knew their Mother was always praying for them. Her Grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she was so proud to become a Great-Grandmother and then a Great-Great-Grandmother. Violet was a staunch prayer warrior and prayed daily over her family, church, and community.  Violet served in many capacities in her church including Deacon’s Wife, Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher,  WMF Officer, and Awana Leader, to name a few.  Vi was a most caring and nurturing person and her home was always open to everyone, with a hug for every friend and stranger alike.  Vi loved her Church Family ever so much, and her joy was when they came and greeted her, also with a hug! Vi was so proud to be a Farmer’s wife and work alongside her husband; enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, baking, was an expert at German dishes, and no one could outdo her famous fried chicken.

Violet is survived by her loving husband Gilbert and they were just 2 weeks shy of celebrating their 75th Wedding Anniversary;  daughter, Vicky Bown; son, Cary and Ava Ost, all of Beulah; daughter, Joette and Allen Knapp of Bismarck; daughter, Linda and Mike Eslinger, also of Beulah; son-in-law Jimo Menge of Golden Valley; grandchildren, Jak and Jason Menge, Tara Cockroft, Casey, Cody and CJ Ost, Raychel Perman, Lance Moericke, Jessica Binder and Angilee Thigpen; nine step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson with one more on the way.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, one infant grandson, Matthew Moericke, and one son-in-law, Linwood Bown.

Although her family will forever miss her wit, humor, and ability to make anything fun including ice cubes down your shirt, which she was notorious for, they are celebrating a life well-lived and the knowledge they will meet her again at the feet of Jesus.
