Wilma Kilber Obituary

Wilma Kilber, 93, of Hazen, ND passed away March 19, 2023, at Elm Crest Nursing Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, ND with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hazen, ND immediately following the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Wilma was born February 4, 1930, to Christ and Marie (Maas) Heine in Krem, ND.  At St. Jacob's Church in Krem she was baptized on March 16, 1930, and later confirmed on July 16, 1944. She grew up on a farm and attended rural school in Krem.   She married the love of her life, Elmer Kilber, November 26, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They farmed north of Hazen their whole married life. Together they had three children:  Keith, Kathy, and Kim. Elmer died on July 21, 1993. Wilma continued to live life to the fullest on the farm until the age of 89, when she made the move to an apartment in town.  She enjoyed the time she had in her “little house”, as she called it.

Wilma was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and community. She took great pride in her country church and served on the altar guild for many years.

She was a good baker and family members enjoyed her kuchen, pies, bars, homemade bread and jelly. She enjoyed going to German Club meetings in Pick City and singing with the German group. Some of Wilma’s favorites:  the color purple, mowing the farmyard, singing, listening or dancing to the old-time music, taking pictures, going for coffee and visiting with friends.

She is survived by one brother, Eldor Heine of Hazen; children, Keith (Pat) Kilber of Fargo, Kathy (Bob) Mettler of Hazen, and Kim Kilber of Hazen; grandchildren: Curtis (Alesia) Kilber and their children Dylan and Colette; Craig (Michelle) Kilber and their child Harrison; Mindy (Jeff) Iverson and their children, Jack and Julia; Miles (April) Mettler and their children Henry, Blake and Boone.  Wilma was very proud of her grandchildren/great grandchildren and usually had a brag book of photos in her purse. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Wilmer.
