Wilmar Sailer, 93, of Stanton, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10AM CDT on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanton with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Stanton.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen
Wilmar was born on July 12, 1926 north of Stanton on the family farm to Fredrick and Emma (Maas) Sailer. He was raised and educated in rural Stanton. Wilmar started working on the Garrison Dam Project in 1947-48 as a heavy equipment and crane operator. On September 10, 1950 he married Frieda Wiedrich in Stanton. Together they lived numerous places, including, Idaho, South Dakota and Washington and finally settled in Stanton in 1963 and have lived there since. Wilmar continued to be a crane operator for the entirety of his career. Wilmar was a member of Local 49 Operating Engineers. He had a close working relationship and friendships with many Ironworkers. Wilmar retired in 1989.
Wilmar loved doing yard work, always keeping busy. They also enjoyed camping with his grandchildren and attending polka festivals.
He is survived by his wife Frieda, of Stanton; his children, Carlyle (Jane) of Hazen, Keith of Reno, NV, Alana (Terry) DeHaven of Stanton, VerDean of Stanton, Darcy (Shelly) of Stanton; one sister, Darlene Kilber of Bismarck, ND; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilmar is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Frieda Heine, Elsie Rathjen, Edna Neuberger, Bernice Huff; seven brothers, Edmar, Reuben, Oscar, Oswald, Eldor, Emil and Levi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sakakawea Hospice, Hazen.
