Zachary Ryan Benson

Zachary Ryan Benson “Werok Xenihe Xie” (Old Thunder Bull), 37, of Twin Buttes, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 in Minot, ND at Trinity Health. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Twin Buttes Wellness Center, Twin Buttes, ND with Kevin Finley officiating. A send off will follow at the Burr-Boepple Family Cemetery.

A wake will begin at 5:00 PM CDT on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Wellness Center.

Zachary was born on June 22, 1984 in Dickinson, ND to Barry Benson and Jody Fox-Altringer. He attended school at Tower View Alternative High School in Red Wing, MN and obtained his GED in 2002. He married the love of his life, Brittany Stephenson and they started their family in 2009 while living in Minnesota.

Following high school, Zachary attended trade school to become a journeyman carpenter, where he took his skills to work at Flint Hills Refinery in Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting and was an excellent tracker. He also enjoyed spending time with family, camping and playing frisbee golf. He spent his summers learning his traditional ways and participating in ceremonies, but his greatest passion in life was being home, raising his children.

Zachary is survived by his wife, Brittany and their children, Kellen, Takoda, Red Willow Woman, Ajay, Fire Spirit Woman, and Echo River Woman; his father, Barry Benson; his mother Jody (Jeff) Fox-Altringer; grandfather, Victor Boepple; brother, Trevor (Megan) Benson and sister, Awnah (Matthew Jones) Fox-Altringer all of Twin Buttes; sister, Cassandra (Javad Khan) Altringer of Killdeer; sister, Chawna (Dustin) Voegele and brother, Chris (Taylor) Altringer of Halliday; sister, Michelle Altringer of Beulah; brothers, Bronson and Micah Benson and sister, Avery Benson of New Town.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Titus Benson; grandmother, Olive Benson; grandmother, Reva Boepple; uncle, Marty Benson; aunts, Janet Gunderson, Alice Spotted Bear, Sandy Spotted Bear, Karen Lynch and Rhonda Schettler.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
