Jeri S. Ellwein, 59, Hazen, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2017 after a valiant fight with cancer. Services will be held Monday, November 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM CT at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hazen, with Pastor Toby Heller officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jeri (Kraft) Ellwein was born on March 12, 1958, in Rolette, ND, the youngest of Frank and Theresa (Neiss) Kraft’s three daughters. During her younger years, Frank worked construction so the family moved to several towns. Eventually they made their way to Hazen where she graduated from Hazen High School in 1976.

Jeri was united in marriage to Duane Ellwein on March 18, 1977 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. They made their home in Hazen and had two daughters; Kelly and Katie.

Jeri worked several years in the eyecare field; at Eyecare Professionals, Hazen and Dakota Eye Institute, Bismarck. She recently retired as a Patient Services Associate from Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen. Jeri was always committed to her work and found joy in helping others.

Jeri enjoyed shopping with her daughters, collecting purses, playing games, going to parades, and watching cooking shows.

She loved spending time with family and friends and could always be found attending her grandchildrens’ activities and sporting events.

Jeri is survived by her husband of 40 years, Duane of Hazen; her daughters Kelly Ellwein and Katie (Kurt) Frank of Bismarck, ND, her grandchildren; Carson Ellwein, Emma, Devin, and Teegan Frank, her sisters; Nancy (Patrick) Curran and Peggy Tani, as well as aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jeri was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

It’s hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. Life won’t be the same without you. We’ll forever love and miss our wife, mom, sister, and nana.
