August 2, 1948 ~ November 28, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Bernhard “Bernie” Piatz, 68, Stanton, ND, died Nov. 28, 2016, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST Monday, Dec. 5, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton.  Burial to follow this spring at the Stanton Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, the family asked that any donations be given in memory of Bernhard to a charity of their choice.

Bernhard Wendlin Piatz was born on August 2, 1948, in Parkston, SD to Wendlin and Bernice (Buchmann) Piatz.  Bernhard was raised and educated in Stanton, ND.  He attended and graduated from Stanton High School in 1966.  He joined Boilermakers Local 647 in 1970 and retired after 37 years of proud service and career in 2007.  Living in Stanton, He met the love of

his life in 1973 and married Trudy (Knutson) Piatz on May 3, 1975, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanton, ND. 

Bernhard became the dad of two wonderful kids from Trudy's previous marriage and proudly raised them as his own.  Shortly after marriage, Bernhard and Trudy welcomed two more wonderful kids into the family and began a life of one of the most amazing roller coaster rides ever.  He and the family enjoyed camping and fishing growing up.  He also loved woodworking.  Bernhard, with his wife, loved attending nightly outings with good friends of the community playing various games with great competitiveness and banter.   Bernhard was an amazing father to his 4 children and an even more amazing grandfather.  His greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by family and friends, joking and laughing until he cried. 

Bernhard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Trudy of Stanton, ND; four children, Kari (Morie) Sailer, Washburn, ND, Keith (Toni) Radomski, Mandan, ND, Wendlin Piatz, Mandan, ND, Patti Olander, Stanton, ND; eight grandchildren, Kyle Sailer, Kirk Sailer, Arionna Radomski, Colton Radomski, Devin Radomski, Seth Olander, Chelsea Olander, Olivia Piatz; one father-in-law, Fred Navratil, Stanton, ND;  one sister, Kathryn (Lonnie) Schumann, Stanton, ND, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendlin and Bernice Piatz; his mother-in-law, Alva Navratil.
