I am Dariana I am Edwin Bensons great granddaughter I didn't know about my great grandfathers death till just recently I miss him very much and wish that I could have said goodbye in person but I wasn't in a very good place and I wasn't able to visit much I honestly didn't even know his real name because he had me call him dataga I've been thinking a lot about him recently and watching his videos on YouTube wishing that I could have been there to maybe learn some of the Mandan language. I don't even know why I am writing this right now I just wanted somebody out in the world to know that I did love hi and I miss him very much he was great when I did visit we went out and fed horses on there farm out there I remember chasing cats all the time out there. They had a beautiful house and farm out there I miss it a lot. I just wish I could've been in his life more and spent more time with him...… with love your great granddaughter Dariana Jenson Thomas

My deepest condolences to the family, may you find comfort in prayer and the beautiful words of Isaiah 25:8 where God promises us that He will soon eliminate all death and suffering. Acts 24:15 speaks of a resurrection, a time when God will reunite us with our loved ones again! Mary Lou, Janet and Heidi, I am so sorry to hear about your dad, I know that very sad feeling to lose your dad. Remember all the happy times you shared with him when you get sad and begin to miss him and he will be there by your side to comfort you. Be strong for each other and take care of each other. You will all be together again.

Honor to Mr. Benson, who allowed me to call him Edwin. I was honored by him years ago when he let me share some of his life's journey in a newspaper story. I will never forget this kind, gentle man. I will never forget his love for his people, his family, and for all people. God Bless you Edwin, on your next journey.

A great and good man has passed away. Yet, Edwin's work preserving the Mandan language will live on after him in the generations of students that he taught.
